NEW DELHI: Taking a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that he considers it his guru and the more the saffron party attacks them, the better it is for the Congress to understand its ideology.
“I want them (BJP) to attack us aggressively, this will help Congress party understand its ideology. I consider them (BJP) as my guru, they are showing me the way and training me on what is not to be done,” he said.
The former Congress president said that there’s huge undercurrent against the BJP and that the opposition has to coordinate effectively on alternate vision to the saffron party.
Rahul, who is leading the Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra, said that the padyatra has so far been successful for the party. “When I started this (yatra), I just took it as an ordinary yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. Slowly, we understood that this yatra has voice and feelings too,” he said.
The Congress MP said that every opposition leader is with the Congress in the Bharat Jodo Yatra, “but I understand there are some political compulsions”.
“The doors of Bharat Jodo Yatra are open for everyone, we are not going to stop anyone from joining us. Akhilesh ji, Mayawati ji and others want ‘mohabbat ka Hindustan‘ and there is some relation of ideology between us,” Rahul added.
His comment comes days after Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav likened the Congress with the BJP and said he had not received any invitation for the Uttar Pradesh leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra. “Our emotions are with their yatra (but) I have not got any invitation for it,” Akhilesh said on Thursday.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra, which is currently on winter break, will resume its journey from Delhi on January 3 and enter Uttar Pradesh.
