PM Modi speaks to Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni on Italy's 79th Liberation Day


NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke to Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni on the occasion of Italy‘s 79th anniversary of Liberation Day.
In a telephone conversation, PM Modi thanked Meloni for the invite to the G7 Summit, which is scheduled to take place in June this year in Italy’s Puglia.
The leaders discussed taking forward the important outcomes from India’s G20 Presidency, especially supporting the Global South, at the G7 Summit under Italy’s Presidency.
“Spoke with PM Giorgia Meloni and extended greetings as Italy celebrates its Liberation day today. Thanked her for the invite to the G7 Summit in June. Discussed taking forward G20 India outcomes at the G7. Reaffirmed commitment to deepening our Strategic Partnership,” PM Modi wrote on X.

Both the countries, India and Italy had established political relations in 1947, marking a significant milestone in their diplomatic ties.
Post that, both countries have signed many MoUs in sectors ranging from energy, media, finance, etc. Italy is also one of the top trading partners of India in the European Union.
With respect to military cooperation, exercises like Milan and INS Tabar’s recent naval engagement have strengthened ties with Italy in the defense arena. Even with respect to Indians living in Italy, the Indian population is about 200,000 people, according to many sources.
