Kota Student Death: Another NEET aspirant dies by suicide in Kota, fourth case this month | Jaipur News

KOTA: A 16-year-old NEET aspirant was found hanging inside his hostel room in the Kunhari area of Kota city in Rajasthan on Wednesday evening.
The young student, identified as Aryan, was staying at Kamla Udhyan in Landmark City.
Hailing from Bihar’s Nalanda district, Aryan had been studying in Kota for the past one year at a coaching institute to prepare for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
Having recently returned to Kota from his hometown after the annual break, Aryan had attended classes until Tuesday but was absent on Wednesday.
He remained in his hostel room throughout the day. Concerned after their repeated calls went unanswered, Aryan’s parents notified the hostel warden. Upon reaching his room at around 9pm, the warden discovered the door locked from the inside and promptly contacted the police.
Police officials forcibly entered the room and retrieved Aryan’s lifeless body, which was hanging from the ceiling fan. The body was subsequently transferred to a mortuary, awaiting the arrival of Aryan’s parents for the post-mortem examination.
Disturbingly, the hostel room’s fan did not have an anti-suicide device, a violation of the guidelines established by the Kota district administration and Kota Hostel Association to prevent such incidents in hostels.
Based on preliminary evidence, it is suspected that the suicide may have been prompted by distractions in Aryan’s studies, specifically related to a romantic relationship. The police discovered love letters addressed to a girl in the victim’s room.
Furthermore, to determine Aryan’s academic progress and attendance in class, authorities are in the process of obtaining his performance sheet from the coaching institute.
The recent tragedy marks the fourth suicide case involving a coaching student in Kota this month, and the ninth such incident this year.
The continuous occurrence of such incidents highlights the urgent need for enhanced support systems and preventive measures within the coaching community to address the mental health challenges faced by these young aspirants.
The last two suicide cases were also reported in the Kunhari area where a 17-year-old NEET aspirant from Patna in Bihar, identified as Navlesh (17), was found hanging in his room at Krishna Vihar on May 12 and another NEET aspirant, Dhanesh Kumar Sharma (15) from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, hanged himself to death in the on May 11.
Mohammed Nasid (22), a NEET aspirant and resident of Bengaluru ended his life by jumping from the tenth floor of a multistory building in Vigyan Nagar area on May 8.
Last year, 15 coaching students died by suicide in the coaching hub. More than 2.25 lakh students are estimated to be taking classes in various coaching centres in the city this academic session to crack entrance exams of medical and engineering colleges.
