NEW DELHI: In Mandla, Madhya Pradesh, houses built on government land by 11 individuals were demolished in an operation against illegal beef trading, according to a police official. This tribal-dominated area saw significant action after authorities received information about potential cow slaughter activities.
Receiving a tip-off about cows being held captive for slaughter in Bhainwahi, Nainpur, the police team acted promptly.
Mandla Superintendent of Police Rajat Saklecha stated, “A team was rushed there and we found 150 cows tied in the backyards of the accused.” Upon searching the homes of the 11 suspects, authorities discovered cow meat in their refrigerators, along with animal fat, cattle skin, and bones stored in a room.
“The local government veterinarian has confirmed the seized meat is beef. We have also sent samples to Hyderabad for secondary DNA analysis. The houses of the11 accused were demolished as they were on government land,” said the SP.
An FIR was filed on Friday night after the discovery of the cows and beef. One suspect has been arrested, and efforts are underway to locate the other 10.
SP Saklecha noted, “The 150 cows have been sent to a cattle shelter. Bhainswahi area had become a hub of cow smuggling for some time now. Cow slaughter in MP is punishable with a jail term of seven years.”
