By India Today Web Desk: The BCCI has announced that Umran Malik will replace Mohammed Shami in the squad for the ODI series against Bangladesh starting on Sunday.

Shami was ruled out on Saturday as the pacer sustained a shoulder injury during a training session in the lead-up to the series. The BCCI announced on their official website that the pacer is currently under the supervision of the BCCI Medical at the National Cricket Academy.

The news of Shami’s injury broke on Saturday morning with a BCCI source telling PTI that the pacer is also a serious doubt for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh which will begin on December 14th.

“Mohammed Shami has suffered a hand injury that he sustained after resuming training post T20 World Cup in Australia. He has been asked to report at the NCA and has not travelled with the team on December 1,” a senior BCCI source privy to development told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

The source also said that Shami would be a doubt for the Test series which will begin on 14th December.

“Shami’s absence from three ODI games is definitely a factor but bigger worry is his likely absence from Tests where he is supposed to spearhead the attack in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence,” said the source.

They also said in the statement that Malik would be replacing Shami in the squad for the series.

“Fast bowler Mohd. Shami sustained a shoulder injury during a training session in the lead up to the ODI series against Bangladesh. He is currently under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team at the NCA, Bengaluru and will not be able to take part in the three-match series.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Umran Malik as Shami’s replacement.”

India’s squad for Bangladesh ODIs: Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (VC), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Shreyas Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Shahbaz Ahmed, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Sen, Umran Malik,” read the statement on BCCI’s website.
