NEW DELHI: India opener Shubman Gill is making progress in his recovery from dengue fever but is still a questionable starter for the pivotal World Cup match against Pakistan on Saturday. He will travel to Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
India play Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi even as Gill arrives in Ahmedabad later in the day.
“Gill is doing absolutely fine and is set to leave Chennai for Ahmedabad today. It is still not clear whether Gill will have a light training session at Motera on Thursday. His recovery has been fine but can’t really be sure if he can play against Pakistan,” a BCCI source said on condition of anonymity.

Will the ODI World Cup set Shubman Gill on the path to greatness?

Gill already missed the opening match against Australia in Chennai as well as the match against Afghanistan on Wednesday.
Gill had to be brought to a hospital in Chennai for routine medical testing last week since his platelet count had fallen below 70,000. He was released after 24 hours.
Gill, who is incredibly fit, is expected to heal more quickly than some of the others.
There is a school of thought that claims Gill may be more successful than flamboyant Ishan Kishan even at 70% fitness, but a dengue infection seriously weakens the body, thus it would only be fair to enable the right-hander to be 100% fit before Bangladesh’s match.
