Shubman Gill

India batter Shubman Gill is going through a rough patch in Test cricket. The batter has not scored a half-century since the World Test Championship 2023 Final against Australia. While Shubman’s white-ball career has been in the rise, he finished his 2023 Test run tally with just 258 runs.

Speaking on Star Sports about the batter’s issues with red ball cricket, Gavaskar said that Gill might have an ongoing issue with his approach in Test cricket.

“I think he is playing a bit too aggressively in Test cricket. There is a slight difference when you play Test cricket vs T20I and ODI cricket. The difference is in the ball. The red ball moves a little more than the white ball in the air and off the pitch as well. It bounces a little more too. He should keep in that in mind,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

Shubman recently was dropped down to the No. 3 position which is being seen as a natural progression for the batter, who in future could replace Kohli as the No. 4 in the Test line-up. The batter did not do well in that position in South Africa and Gavaskar hopes that Shubman Gill fixes his problems in the nets.

“Shubman Gill started off his career so well and we praised his shots. We can only hope that he gets back into his form. Hope he trains harder and does well in the future,” Gavaskar further added.

Shubman Gill will next be seen in the new year’s Test match against South Africa, which starts on 3 January. Gill would hope to do better for India especially after India failed with the bat in the first Test match of the series. India lost the first Test in Centurion by an innings and would hope to turn their fortunes around in the last encounter of the tour of South Africa.
