NEW DELHI: Afghanistan‘s all-rounder Mohammad Nabi on Tuesday etched his name into the record books with a blistering fifty off just 24 balls against Sri Lanka in Lahore in a thrilling Asia Cup group game. Nabi’s sensational innings marked the fastest fifty ever recorded by an Afghan batter in the One Day International (ODI) format.
With an explosive display of power-hitting, Nabi smashed three towering sixes and six fours to reach this milestone, claiming his 16th fifty in the ODIs. His whirlwind performance proved to be a game-changer for Afghanistan in their pursuit of Sri Lanka’s imposing total of 291 for 8, posted while batting first.

Nabi, batting at No. 6, entered the fray and made an immediate impact, ensuring that Afghanistan remained well within reach of the target and in contention for the coveted Asia Cup Super Fours stage. His partnership with Hashmatullah Shahidi was nothing short of spectacular, as the duo orchestrated a lightning-quick 80-run stand for the fifth wicket in just 7.5 overs, firmly placing Afghanistan in the driver’s seat.
