By India Today Web Desk: England captain Jos Buttler has heaped praise on India’s Suryakumar Yadav and labeled him as the batter of the tournament in this year’s T20 World Cup ahead of the semi-final clash between the two teams on Thursday.

Yadav has enjoyed an incredible time in 2022 in the shortest format of the game and carried the momentum into the tournament down under. The 32-year-old finds himself in third on the list of highest run-getters with 225 runs to his name.

The Indian batter also claimed the No.1 spot in ICC’s latest T20I batters rankings and has been making fans around the globe. England captain Buttler seems to be one of them and he heaped praise on Yadav during the pre-match press conference on Wednesday.

Buttler said that Yadav is probably the batter of the tournament so far and his biggest strength is the amount of freedom he plays with.

The England skipper also said that Yadav has a very free mindset. However, Buttler said that it only takes one chance to create a wicket and his team will be desperate to get the 32-year-old out when both teams face each other in Adelaide.

Buttler also said it would be a big miss if they just focused on Yadav, as he feels that India has a star-studded lineup with dangerous players.

“He’s been great to watch, hasn’t he? I think he’s someone who has probably been the batter of the tournament so far in terms of the way you want to watch someone go about it. I think his biggest strength looks to be the amount of freedom he plays with. I think he’s obviously got all the shots but he allows himself to play all the shots as well. He’s got a very free mindset from what I can see. But as with any batter in the world, it takes one chance to create a wicket. We desperately need to find a way to do that and you know, it’s a big miss to just think about him. I think they have some other excellent players as well,” said Buttler.
