India vs Australia, 3rd T20I: Magical Glenn Maxwell conjures dazzling ton as Australia clinch last-ball thriller, keep series alive | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Glenn Maxwell once again showcased his incredible solo act, delivering an unbeaten hundred that propelled Australia to a thrilling five-wicket victory over India in the third T20I. Maxwell’s remarkable 104 runs off just 48 balls, adorned with 8 boundaries and 8 massive sixes, powered Australia past India’s formidable 222 for 3.
Maxwell’s stellar performance allowed Australia to clinch victory on the final ball of the match, reducing India’s series lead to 2-1 in the five-match series.

Leading from the front, skipper Matthew Wade’s 28 not out complemented Maxwell’s brilliance, fostering a crucial 91-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

This stunning innings echoed memories of Maxwell’s incredible double hundred against Afghanistan in the recent 50-over World Cup, displaying his ability to single-handedly steer his team to victory.

Maxwell’s century, though not as expansive as his previous feats, played a pivotal role in securing Australia’s standing in the series, especially after conceding 30 runs in the final over of India’s innings.

The pressure was on, requiring 21 runs from the last over, but Maxwell’s nerves of steel, coupled with a bit of luck surviving a run-out chance, ensured victory for Australia with a six and three fours, sealing his fourth T20I century in just 47 balls—matching the record for Australia’s fastest T20I hundred alongside Josh Inglis and Aaron Finch.

India’s slow-over rate penalty led to a tense final over with only five fielders within the ring, yet Maxwell’s presence and composure ultimately tilted the scales in Australia’s favor.
Despite a challenging start where Australia lost three wickets early, Maxwell’s onslaught proved insurmountable for the Indian bowlers.
Gaikwad’s exceptional century, the first by an Indian against Australia in T20Is, set the stage for India’s formidable total.
His innings showcased versatility, transitioning from a cautious start to an explosive display of power hitting, notably smashing his maiden triple-digit score off Maxwell in the final over, steering India to their third consecutive 200-plus total in the series.
