Du Plessis effect!: In an unusual move, broadcasters go zoom in on coin, putting rest to toss-tampering theories | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Ever since Faf du Plessis’ ‘coin flip’ gesture during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Sunrisers Hyderabad game went viral, fueling the bizarre social media theories of toss-tampering in IPL, the broadcasters on Thursday came up with an unusual move, going full zoom in on the coin during the Mumbai Indians vs Punjab Kings match.
It all started when match referee Javagal Srinath was accused on the internet of changing the outcome of the toss during the Mumbai Indians vs RCB game, favouring the Hardik Pandya-led side.
Amid the accusations, du Plessis’ gesture, explaining the incident to Sunrisers skipper Pat Cummins in their next game, added more drama to it.
But on Thursday, during the Punjab vs MI game, the broadcasters rebuffed in a strong manner, showing the coin full zoom-in after it landed in stand-in skipper Sam Curran’s favour.
The unique work from the IPL production team once again set social media abuzz, this time garnering praise.

Punjab won the toss and elected to bowl first against Mumbai in Mullanpur.
Regular Punjab skipper Shikhar Dhawan, who is yet to recover from his shoulder injury, once again missed the game with Curran leading the hosts.
PBKS brought in Rilee Rossouw in place of Jonny Bairstow, while Atharva Taide also missed out.
MI fielded an unchanged playing XI.
The game is also Rohit Sharma‘s 250 match in the IPL.
Teams:
Punjab Kings: Rilee Rossouw, Prabhsimran Singh, Sam Curran(c), Jitesh Sharma(wk), Liam Livingstone, Shashank Singh, Ashutosh Sharma, Harpreet Brar, Harshal Patel, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh.
Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan(wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya(c), Tim David, Romario Shepherd, Mohammad Nabi, Gerald Coetzee, Shreyas Gopal, Jasprit Bumrah.
