NEW DELHI: India voiced grave concern over the situation in Palestine on Friday, a day after the Israeli troops opened fire and and claimed 104 Palestinian lives and wounded 280 who were waiting for aid near Gaza city.
In a statement, the ministry of external affairs said, ” we are deeply shocked at the loss of lives in Northern Gaza yesterday during delivery of humanitarian assistance.So many lives and the larger humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to be a cause for extreme concern.”
‘We reiterate our call for safe and timely delivery of humanitarian aid and assistance”, it added.
Earlier, in a statement during the 55th session of the Human Rights Council at the the Interactive Dialogue following the High Commissioner’s report on the Humanitarian Situation in the Occupied Palestinian territory, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Ambassador Arindam Bagchi underlined the need to be clear about the universal obligation to observe International Humanitarian Law.
“The situation in Palestine continues to be of grave concern, with large-scale loss of civilian lives, especially women and children, and an alarming humanitarian crisis. This is clearly unacceptable and we strongly condemn the death of all civilians,” Bagchi said on Thursday.
Following the incident, Hamas also warned in a statement that the killing of unarmed Pelastinians could lead to the failure of talks aimed at a deal on a truce and hostage release.
“The negotiations conducted by the movement’s leadership are not an open process at the expense of the blood of our people,” it said, referring to Thursday’s deaths and saying Israel would be responsible for any failure of the talks.
In a statement, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ office condemned the incident against the people who waited for the aid trucks at Nabulsi roundabout.
Since October 7 the war has caused around 1,200 people and seizing 253 hostages from Israel. Meanwhile, Gaza health authorities said that 30,228 people in Palestine have been killed in the enclave, with thousands of others believed to be buried under rubble.
