After Maruti, Toyota recalls 1,400 units of Glanza and Urban Cruiser Hyryder over possible airbag defect

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has recalled almost 1,400 units of the Glanza and Urban Cruiser Hyryder for a possible airbag defect, right after Maruti Suzuki issued a recall for its cars for a similar issue. A total of 1,390 units of the Toyota Glanza and Urban Cruiser Hyryder have been recalled, manufactured between December 8, 2022 and January 12, 2023.
The two Toyota cars that have been recalled are actually shared with Maruti Suzuki, which announced a recall for its Alto K10, S-Presso, Eeco, Baleno, Brezza and Grand Vitara. The suspected faulty part is the airbag assembly controller, which could result in the airbag not deploying in the event of a crash. The recalled cars will be inspected and if found faulty, the part will be replaced free of cost.

While the Toyota Glanza is a badge-engineered version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder shares a majority of its underpinnings with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara – with all four vehicles being a part of this recall. Toyota dealerships will contact the owners of the affected cars for the recall, while customers can contact the company representatives themselves too.
While only 1,390 Toyota cars are a part of the latest recall, Maruti Suzuki’s recall is much significant, affecting over 17,000 cars manufactured between this time period. Both Maruti Suzuki and Toyota had issued another recall in December 2022 related to a faulty seat belt height adjuster for the front seats, which included the Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV.
