NEW DELHI: ‘Chase your dreams, they do come true’ – the golden words came from batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar after he hung up his cricketing boots in 2013. The words seem apt for Mumbai youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal who made his international debut on Wednesday during the opening Test match against the West Indies in Dominica.
Yashasvi’s quintessential rags-to-riches tale has been an inspiration for many and he lived his long-time dream – wearing India Test whites – when he was handed his debut cap by India captain Rohit Sharma.
“For me, Test is the true form of cricket,” the 21-year-old said, ahead of his debut, in a video shared by BCCI on Twitter.
The 21-year-old’s journey so far has been a fascinating one.
He was 11 when he left his home in Suriya village in Uttar Pradesh and travelled to Mumbai and lived in tents in the initial days of his career.

In IPL 2023, the left-hander was the fifth-highest run-getter and finished with 625 runs in 14 matches at an average of 48.08, with one century, and five fifties.
On the back of his stupendous show in IPL 2023, Yashasvi was selected as a stand-by player for the WTC Final which India lost to Australia by 209 runs.
Yashasvi was part of India’s 2020 Under-19 World Cup campaign. He was Player of the Series with 400 runs, at an average of 133.33, and claimed 3 wickets in the mega event, including a fighting 88 in the final. Unfortunately, India lost the title clash to Bangladesh by 3 wickets (DLS).
