The special tribunal concluding the trial on October 7, 1930 delivered its 300-page judgement based on various evidence and declared Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru guilty of the killing of Saunders. The death warrant has resurfaced on their death anniversary on March 23.
They were found guilty under sections 121, 302 4(b) of Explosive Substances Act along with Section 6 of the same act and 120(B). The tribunal authorised the superintendent of Lahore jail to carry out the sentence into execution to be hanged by the neck until dead.
The trio were sentenced to death by hanging on March 24, 1931 but they were hanged a few hours ago on March 23 in Central Jail in Lahore.
The accused in the case Ajoy Ghosh, Jatindra Nath Sanyal and Des Raj were acquitted whereas Kundan Lal was sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment, Prem Dutt for five years and Kishori Lal, Mahabir Singh, Bijoy Kumar Sinha, Shiv Verma, Gaya Prasad, Jai Dev and Kamalnath Tewari were sentenced to transportation for life.
