Aston Villa boss Unai Emery wants players to gain perspective after unbeaten home run comes to end

Unai Emery has told the Aston Villa to gain perspective after their incredible home run in the Premier League came to an end on January 30 at the hands of Newcastle United.

Newcastle won the match 3–1 thanks to a brace from Fabian Schar as Villa’s incredible run at their home ground Villa Park, came to an end. Emery, since taking over, saw his side win 16 matches at home, including victories over Manchester City and Arsenal this season.

Despite the loss to Newcastle, Villa are still in fourth spot with 43 points to their name this season and are serious contenders to get a spot in Europe next season.

Emery talked to the reporters after the loss, as quoted by Reuters, said that the loss had to come one day and praised Newcastle for their performance on the day. The Spaniard said he was proud of the supporters and the players for the unbeaten run.

Emery admitted that losing the match can be a little bit frustrating for the players and supporters, but urged his side to gain perspective from the loss and move forward.

“The loss has to come one day and Newcastle deserved it overall,” said Emery, who has turned the club’s fortunes around since replacing England great Steven Gerrard in October 2022.

“I’m very proud for our supporters and very proud of the players of the way we did (the unbeaten run). It’s finished because we lost after a very long time being successful here.

“Always when you are losing it’s a little bit frustrating for the players and supporters, but we have to try to get the perspective we have now with everything we were doing.”

We have to react tactically: Emery after Villa’s loss

Emery said that Villa struggled to take chances to draw the game and they need to react tactically in matches like this

“The first 60 minutes, they were better. We couldn’t take chances to draw but we have to accept and remind the players everything we did here was perfect. We then have to correct what we did here.”

“Newcastle’s power is in the set pieces and they won at Fulham this way on Saturday. We conceded more corners than usual at home and that is the first way to concede a goal from a corner. We have to be demanding that we can improve. We have to react tactically,” said Emery
