Alyssa Healy warns India of preparing spinning pitches ‘at own peril’ for Australia series

Alyssa Healy said that India can take the risk of preparing turning tracks at ‘your own peril” in their upcoming multi-format series against Australia.

Australia’s tour of India is scheduled to start with the only Test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to be played from December 21. The red-ball match will be followed by three ODIs at the same venue. The Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai will host the three T20Is.

Healy said that Australia have quality spinners in Ash Gardner, Alana King, Georgia Wareham and Jess Jonassen, who are all world-class cricketers.

“I’m actually really intrigued to see what sort of wickets they prepare. I think we’ve got a really, really good spin attack, so do that at your own peril,” Healy was quoted as saying to the reporters.

“Don’t get me wrong, the Indians have got a strong spin attack as well, but we’ve got some of the best leg-spinners in the world. We’ve got Ash Gardner, who took nine wickets on English soil with the ball in hand, so prepare spinning wickets at your own demise,” she stated.

“It will be interesting to see if they make it nice and flat, but I haven’t played at Wankhede since the IPL exhibition game a couple of years ago, so I’m excited for that experience,” Healy added.

Healy recently took over as the full-time skipper of the Australia Women’s team across formats after the legendary Meg Lanning retired from international cricket last month.

Australia have an excellent record while playing limited-overs cricket on Indian soil. In 41 ODIs, they have won 35, losing only six. In the 20-over format, they have won 16 out of 21 T20Is.

Australia have won all their bilateral series in India with their last 4-1 win coming back in December 2022.
